Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there! The constantly changing temperatures and weather in central Pennsylvania have been messing with me like whoa. And I’ve had a lot of family events, so I haven’t had a lot of time or energy to focus on art in the past month.
But I have one exciting thing.
Zine preview: Spaced Out
I’m (slowly) working on a zine with illustrations and bits of writing. It’s called Spaced Out. Here’s the cover.
Every page has black and white illustrations and color elements made from washi tape. I made those by hand, scanned pages into the computer, and added text in Canva. The writing is outer spaced-themed (or vaguely about outer space).
I have some edits and adjustments to make, and then I’ll be ready to print copies.
No release date to announce because (see above) December is busy for me. But hopefully I can finish this zine soon.
Postroll to share links
I started a postroll page on my website to list posts and links I think are worth sharing. This will be a running list. Once the list has 15 posts, the top posts will start coming off the list.
There isn’t a way to follow this page specifically, but I’ve been posting when I add new links. If you follow me via RSS, email, on micro.blog, or on Mastodon, you’ll see updates that way.
Recent additions to the page:
“Back to the Future” and “The Goonies” take place on the same day - Spoiled Blue Milk via Robb Knight
Chilltrax - Ad-free online radio for downtempo, electronica, and chillout music (via zkbro)
SomaFM - Listener-supported, commercial-free, underground/alternative radio (via zkbro)
What I’ve been watching
(No spoilers.)
Black Doves (streaming on Netflix) - Spy thriller. Violent moments but they cut away from the worst of it. Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw are the leads. While I think they’re both excellent actors, I might not have picked them for a spy series. But they’re perfect.
How I Met Your Mother (streaming on Netflix) - I’m rewatching. Currently in season 3 and I do not intend to watch all the way through. Some of Barney’s and Ted’s jokes and storylines don’t hold up anymore. But my favorite part of the series has always been how they play with story structure.
Thank you for reading!
That’s all for this issue. Happy holidays if you’re celebrating in December! New Year’s resolutions are fine, but please remember that you don’t have to start something new on January 1. You can make changes whenever you want.
As always, thank you for following this newsletter and supporting my work.
