An hour difference
Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there! I hope you’re doing well. Just a few things to share this month.
New zines
I released two zines in October.
“Hipster Doctor Who” is a collection of quotes from Doctor Who with random hipster photos. Saturated colors, vintage objects, and a soft tone—this style of photo was all over the internet in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
I thought it would be a fun way to celebrate Doctor Who, since the series has its 60th anniversary this month.
The zine is 20 pages and printed in full color with a cardstock cover.
“Work in Progress” is a zine about how I made some of my zines. So meta! It includes process photos and notes. Think of it like DVD commentary, but for zines. 20 pages and printed in full color.
Zine distros
Zine distros (short for “distributions”) sell zines made by a variety of people. Distros are sometimes part of a physical store an or online shop.
Some of my zines are now available from Common Meter Press and The SOUR Collective. Check out both sites for lots of great independent works!
Lancaster zine events
If you’re near Lancaster, PA, there will be a zine meet-up and workshop on Wednesday November 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., at F&M College.
Free event. Very casual. Make zines (with materials provided), browse the F&M zine library, and hang out with other zinesters.
Details are available from Lancaster Zine Fest on Instagram.
Also, save the date for the next Lancaster Zine Fest! April 6, 2024. Details tbd.
What I’ve been watching
Pleasantville - Streaming on HBO Max. I’ve seen this maybe 3 or 4 times before. Such a solid movie.
Loki - Season 2 streaming on Disney+. Most of the episodes feel hollow. This seems to be an issue with the most recent Marvel shows, though, and not just Loki. It’s as if we’re supposed to care just because we already know who these characters are. But there’s nothing new in these stories to make us care.
Quantum Leap - Season 2 on NBC. I like season 2 so far. They’re doing this thing where they leave secrets up in the air just because, but meh, they did that last year, too. The characters make up for it.
Thank you for reading!
