Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been reading, and sources of inspiration.
Zine update
I’m making slow progress on my next zine. It’s a collection of stories and musings(?) about time travel. Here’s a page of it, as a preview:
I have most of the text drafted for the rest of the pages. Then I’ll work on illustrations (which is the more difficult part for me).
As I mentioned before, I don’t keep a schedule when it comes to making zines. I don’t know when this one will be done. But I’ll definitely post about it in this newsletter and on Instagram.
What I’ve been reading
Blog posts about the work self
I follow a bunch of blogs, and I read posts in Feedly, and sometimes posts from two people and totally different blogs are about the same topic. That happened in my reading list on May 5th. Same day, same topic. Weird.
Here’s the first one — I’m not a goblin, I just play one in Google Docs by Matt Webb — and the second one — Bring your work self to work by David Heinemeier Hansson.
These posts are about how we have different selves in different settings. Your work self is different (probably) from how you are with friends or at home. And that’s not to say you’re not being sincere. Simply that the way you present yourself changes depending on where you are and who you’re with.
Some companies definitely encourage you to “bring your whole self to work” and develop friendships with co-workers. Other companies may not have that as part of their culture. I don’t know if one way is better than the other. It depends on what you’re comfortable with.
Zines
Wanderer Issue #7 by Craft of DIY is written like a journal, with entries about habits, favorite music, and relationships.
The first issue of Broken Galaxies by Vlasinda Productions is out! It includes stories, comics, and illustrations with sci-fi, fantasy, and horror themes.
Mixed-media inspiration
I started following Joe Boyd on Instagram. He makes mixed-media prints by photocopying objects, playing with colors, and adding text. A one-sentence explanation doesn’t really do it justice, so here’s an example:
Thank you for reading!

I always brought my whole self to work at most of my jobs. The ones I stayed at for years. To this day I am still friends with many of my coworkers from 20 years ago. I didn't go to work to make friends but I ended up making so many wonderful ones by always being myself. I recommend it!
Looking forward to seeing more of your work :)
