Skipping over twilight
Not the movie. I mean sunsets are currently short and go right to night time.
Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there! I hope you’re doing well. Short issue this month.
A new zine
"Cat's Cradle" is a tiny story about mimicking someone. It's not quite sci-fi, but it feels like it...maybe because it was inspired by a scene near the end of Annihilation. (I won't spoil the movie and neither does the zine.)
Zine events
The zine events I went to in November went really well! I visited a college graphic design class to talk about inspiration and process for making zines.
Later the same week, I went to a meet-up at a local college. We had open time to make a zine with supplied materials, meet local zinesters, and browse the zine collection at the library.
I made this zine with archival images and found poetry.
Very different style for me. It was a fun experiment. :)
What I’ve been watching
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - Streaming on Netflix. I saw this once before, so this was a re-watch before getting into Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - the animated series also streaming on Netflix. I’m a few episodes in, and so far I like how each episode has a different storytelling style.
Doctor Who specials - Streaming on Disney+. The first special was fine. The second special was one of the best Doctor Who episodes in a long time. Kind of the same vibe as “Midnight,” but I won’t spoil anything. (Side note: I’ve seen some comments online complaining that Disney added their logo to the opening screens but…that comes with paying for the streaming rights. Also the special effects have looked really, really good considering it’s Doctor Who. I’m assuming that’s Disney money.)
Thank you for reading!
