Summer days drifting away
Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there! I hope you’re doing well. Summer is winding down, but the northeast in the U.S. is heading into a heatwave this week. Hopefully the weather cools off in another week or so. I’m definitely ready for hoodies and changing leaves.
Modern-day Sisyphus is available on Etsy
“Modern-day Sisyphus,” the zine I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, is now available on Etsy.
The zine is inspired by Sisyphus, a figure from Greek mythology who is tasked with rolling a boulder up a mountain, only for the boulder to roll back down every time he reached near the top. The zine lists modern chores with the same repetitiveness, like washing dishes, doing laundry, and taking out trash.
Pocket Art Swap is on display at curio
I have mini artworks on display at curio, an art supply shop and gallery in Lancaster, PA. The exhibit includes work from 16 artists with the theme “On my mind.” If you’re around Lancaster in September, go check it out!
What I’ve been watching
My Adventures with Superman - Animated series on HBO Max (I refuse to call it just “Max.”) The show is about Clark, Lois, and Jimmy as interns at the Daily Planet. If you’ve watched a lot of the existing shows and movies about Superman, there isn’t anything new or interesting here. Stories feel watered down, maybe because each episode is only 23 minutes. 3/5 stars.
The Flash (2023 movie) - The only reasons I watched this were because it’s streaming on HBO Max now and I was curious about what they did with the story. It doesn’t follow the Flashpoint story from the comics (which, I thought it would?). There are some interesting plot points but they get washed away by how annoying Barry is. He’s the worst part of the movie, and I wish they re-cast Ezra Miller after the Justice League movie. The best part of the movie was seeing Michael Keaton be Batman again. 1/5 stars.
Arrested Development - Streaming on Netflix. I re-watch Arrested Development whenever I’m in between watching other TV shows. It’s fun but honestly kind of annoying on re-watches because I notice how many jokes repeat themselves. But the writing and the cast are always 5/5 stars.
