The other side of zine fest
Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there! I hope April is treating you well. This issue of the newsletter is late because I was super busy with zine fest! Several people signed up for this newsletter that day, so thank you! Welcome. 😊
Zine fest recap
Lancaster Zine Fest was on Saturday April 6, in Lancaster, PA. It was a busy day! I only took one photo (oops) and it was to check my table setup:
I had a great time chatting with people, seeing friends, and making some new friends! And I have a pile of new zines to read. 🙂
I taught a workshop on how to make a mini zine and the room was FULL. I love seeing what people come up with for zine topics. It’s so interesting to see people’s different approaches and styles. Some of the examples from the workshop were:
A grandmother writing typical conversations she has with her grandchildren
A person illustrating scenes from her favorite movie
A person making little bio pages for each of her roommates
I have some leftover zines, and they’re listed in my Etsy shop. Use the code APRILNEWS for 20% off your purchase (that’s exclusively for newsletter subscribers!). Type in the code at checkout or use the button below:
The code is active now through April 30. Shipping is free in the U.S.
What’s next?
I spent a lot of my free time in March prepping for zine fest, so now my free time is opening up again.
I have a couple ideas for new zines that I’m excited to dig into. I want to get back to posting on my blog. And I’m looking forward to having time again to experiment with art supplies.
Are you working on any creative projects? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
What I’ve been watching
Ripley (Netflix) - No spoilers here. I really appreciate when a show can be slow-paced without being boring. That’s a tricky balance, and the Ripley crew knows what it’s doing.
X-Men ‘97 (Disney+) - When I was younger, I watched more of X-Men: Evolution than the animated X-Men series, so I didn’t really know what to expect with the new series. I’m enjoying the episodes so far, though!
Island By Film (YouTube channel) - This person commented on one of my Canva video tutorials, and then I checked out his videos. A lot of his are about photography, so I’ve been enjoying those.
He made a video about making a photo zine at home. I love seeing process videos, and I know some of you do, too. Check it out:
Thank you for reading!
