Zine progress and a new blog
Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there! I hope you’re doing well.
Some quick updates this month.
Yesterday I ran a zine-making station at a library fundraiser. I had a table full of young zine makers in the afternoon. 😊
Zines in the works
I’m making progress on Urban Legends. I plan to finish the layout and have copies available in early October, so people can have the zine in time for Halloween.
I’m tweaking colors in Making art on the left side of your brain, an 8-page mini zine. I’m drawing with markers in the background and didn’t quite like how the colors looked. So I got a few new options from curio, a local art supply shop (and they have an online store, too).
Spaced Out is on hold for now, because I can’t work on multiple zines at once. 😂
New blog, who this?
I started a new blog on kalikambo.com. I’m going to be using that as a digital notebook and for more casual posts. Not that Mythical Type is formal, but that’s more focused on zines and creative process. It feels weird to post about random topics there.
The blog on kalikambo.com will be more like short-form text posts. The kind of thing I used to like about Twitter and (for a bit) Tumblr. Kalikambo.com is hosted on micro.blog, so there are a few ways to follow posts there.
If you use micro.blog or Mastodon, you can follow me at @kalikambo@micro.blog
I’m keeping my blog on Mythical Type, too. No changes there.
And all my major updates will continue to be in this newsletter.
What I’ve been watching
No spoilers, don’t worry.
Kaos (mini-series streaming on Netflix) - A modern telling of Greek gods. I liked watching the relationships between the humans and the gods. Most of the gods think humans are beneath them and don’t matter, but at the same time, the gods pay a lot of attention to human actions.
I recommend watching it if you like Greek mythology. But content warning: There are a few gory scenes in every episode and when it’s gory, it’s really gory.
Terminator Zero (mini-series on Netflix) - I like that they aren’t rehashing stories from the movies. It’s the same universe with new characters.
The original Jurassic Park movies - It’s been a while since I saw them, so I thought, why not?
Thank you for reading!
