Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there, here are some zine updates for you.
Shoveling sand is out!
“Shoveling sand” is a zine that collects my favorite writing advice. I grouped quotes by themes including "keep a notebook," "don't worry about being popular," and "get the first draft down."
Copies are available on Etsy, and I’ll also have copies at Lancaster Zine Fest on April 6.
Children of Immigrants preview
“Children of Immigrants” is a contributor zine about immigrant experiences. I’m really happy with how this came out! It’s 28 pages long, with work from 13 contributors. Pages include stories, poetry, collages, and photos.
Here’s an exclusive preview (just for newsletter readers!) of the cover and a few of the pages.
I sent the pages to print via Mixam, and I will have the printed copies in mid-March. Then I’ll mail a copy to each contributor. Remaining copies will be available at Lancaster Zine Fest and in my Etsy shop.
A zine about social media
I’m working on a zine about how negative things are outweighing positives on social media. But social media is still a good way to find people to connect with.
Sometimes my first step in making a zine is to fill a notebook page with my idea. Here’s a photo of that:
I couldn’t decide if I wanted to hand-write the text or type it in the zine. So, I tried both ways:
I’m going to go with typed text but a different font. Something that looks closer to handwriting. I have a little bit of work to do on this, but it’s close to done. :)
Thank you for reading!
As always, thank you for following this newsletter and supporting my work.
If you want to see more from me, you can follow me on Instagram, check out my blog, or browse my zines on Etsy.
A new thing I started on my blog is these log posts. I’m aiming for 1-2 posts per week where I share what I’m working on. Part status update, part sharing process.
Until next time!
