Zines, movies, a song, and some art
I’m planning to send each issue near the end of the month. Of course for December, it’s also the last day of 2021.
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions for reasons that are too long for a newsletter intro. But if you like setting goals for the new year, check out this article on resolutions for 2022. Since we’re still in a global pandemic with lots of uncertainty, consider making smaller, actionable goals to build momentum. And it’s a good way not to put lots of pressure on yourself.
Selling zines in person
At the beginning of December, I sold my zines in person for the first time! A local bike shop/non-profit community center (you read that right—it’s awesome) invited artists and makers to sell their items on a Friday evening. It was a very chill event. Not much foot traffic—maybe because it was a cold night or maybe because other events were going on the same night. But it was a great experience to set up a table, and I made a few sales!
Here are my zines out in the world:
New zine—Questions to ask yourself: Part 3
I added a new zine (and a zine bundle!) to my Etsy shop.
Questions to ask yourself: Part 3 has questions with a few illustrations.
I’ve gotten quite a few orders for Part 1 of this series in the last couple weeks. My sister noted that maybe it’s because of New Year’s. Maybe people use these as prompts for end-of-year reflections? So that’s pretty cool.
Here are the inside pages of Part 3:
If you want a physical copy, Questions to ask yourself: Part 3 is available in my Etsy shop. And/or you can get all three parts in a bundle.
From now through Jan. 15, 2022, you can use the code QUESTIONS to get 22% off any of the "Questions to ask yourself" zines (individually or the bundle).
2021 movies
I watched about 50 movies this year. I enjoyed some of them but a lot were strange (not in cool way, either) or I didn’t like them very much. I will watch pretty much any movie (except horror), so I expect to run into films that are not for me.
In no particular order, here are my top 5:
High Fidelity
Superman: Red Son
Matchstick Men
Grosse Pointe Blank
The Founder
You can see the full list of movies I watched on my blog.
You might notice that John Cusack is in a lot of them? Sometimes I pick an actor and choose movies with them in it. That helps me avoid 30 minutes of browsing for something to watch. And I guess John Cusack was it for 2021.
Which movies did you enjoy this year? Let me know in the comments!
Around the internet
My favorite band, Jukebox the Ghost, released a new song called “Ramona.” Check out the super cool music video:

Sketchbook experiments from one of my favorite artists on YouTube:
And a great video from Minute Physics about pausing to think about new information:
