Welcome to the Mythical Type newsletter, where I share projects I’m working on, things I’ve been watching, and sources of inspiration.
Hi there, I hope you’re doing well. This time of year feels weird to me. It’s technically still spring but some days feel like full-out summer. A weird kind of limbo.
I kind of (definitely) forgot to include some updates last month. Pardon the delay.
Free printable zine about making zines
I made “How to make a mini zine” for the workshop I led at Lancaster Zine Fest in April. It’s an 8-page mini zine that shows you how to fold mini zines. So meta!
Now it’s available to download as a PDF, so you can print your own copies. Available in my Ko-fi shop for free (or pay what you want).
New sci-fi zine
"So You Met Your Past Self" is my newest zine. It includes tips for what to do when you meet a past version of yourself. Available on Etsy and/or contact me for trading.
If you answered Yes, we need to have a word. 😅
One note about my Etsy shop: Moving forward, my zines on Etsy will be available to ship in the U.S. only. I won’t be shipping international orders anymore.
It’s too much of a hassle considering my zines are a hobby and not a business. But I’m always open to trading zines. So if you’re outside the U.S. and want physical copies of my zines, please contact me about trading. Even if you don’t make zines but some other kind of mailable art, I’m open to trading for art in general.
Stuff I forgot to tell you
I was on a podcast. VLASINDA's Desolate Library is a monthly podcast that includes original short stories and interviews about writing, film, zines, and art. Episode 3’s theme was “Preservation” and includes a sci-fi-ish story I wrote. You can listen to it on Spotify.
I wrote an essay about the Barbie movie for The Wrench Dispatch zine. The essay is about visual information in Barbie, and I made some comparisons to Pleasantville. You can read the essay on my blog.
If you have a personal website, consider making a Now page. This is a page on your website that gives an overview of what you’re doing now(ish). Think of it like a more complete summary than what you can gather from social media updates. Here’s my Now page. I’ve had it for a while, and when I’m lucky, I remember to update it. 😉
If you like stationery and journaling, go check out Pouch Magazine. It’s incredible, and that’s all that needs to be said about that.
What I’ve been watching
No spoilers, don’t worry.
X-Men ‘97 - On Disney Plus. Easily the best revival/sequel show in a long time. I prefer when superhero stories show actual consequences and how the characters deal with them. X-Men ‘97 does that constantly. No pulling punches for the sake of a joke. (I’m looking at the rest of what Marvel has produced in the last 10 years...)
Doctor Who - On Disney Plus if you’re in the U.S. On the BBC everywhere else? If you check reviews online, it’s a mixed bag for this season. But overall, I think the episodes have been pretty strong. It’s a shorter season (only 8 episodes), which I’m bummed about, but hopefully it ends strong to lead into the next season.
Jim Henson: Idea Man - Documentary on Disney Plus. I didn’t know much about Jim Henson except, he made the Muppets. The documentary is a good overview of his life. I would have liked to see more behind-the-scenes of making Muppets and filming with them. The documentary shows brief clips but process is not really part of the conversation.

Love the idea of a Now page, especially as I’m on social media less and less.
